PVC Pressure Pipes
PVC Pressure Pipes are manufactured using quality virgin raw materials. Virgin PVC materials are mixed with stabilisers, lubricants, and pigments and are free of plasticisers.
Australian PVC pipes manufacture commenced relatively late, possibly influenced by local PVC resin manufacture which started in 1954. By 1960 PVC had been used very extensively elsewhere in the world - Japan had 64,000kms of PVC water pipe in service with 10 years experience, while Italy, Germany, and Holland had 32,000kms, 16,000kms, and 8,000 kms of pipe installed with 12 years, 25 years, and 9 years experience respectively.
Conventional PVC pipe for pressure applications in Australia was formulated to improve toughness thus enhancing resistance to crack formation and propagation - this pipe was designated Modified PVC or PVC-M
PVC-U stands for unplasticised PVC, which means no plasticiser has been added to the PVC compound. Unplasticised PVC is also known as rigid PVC. PVC-U is the most common PVC type for pipes and fittings including transportation of drinking water, soil and waste, sewage and underground drainage, and industrial applications. Pipes and fittings made of PVC-U have many benefits. They are a safe choice for transportation of drinking water, light and easy to handle, and affordable. Technical properties include high mechanical performance, high durability (at least 100 years for underground pipes), high chemical resistance, and resistance to UV exposure. Moreover, PVC-U pipes have favorable environmental profiles and are 100% recyclable.
Our wide range of PVC Pressure Pipes and associated materials are manufactured to Australian Standards under third-party accredited quality assurance programs.PVC-U pressure pipes and fittings are manufactured in accordance with Australian and New Zealand Standard AS1477.
Rubber Ring seals comply with AS1646 and Rubber Ring Joint Pressure Pipes are often preferred in larger diameter sizes for irrigation projects over solvent cement joint pipes.
PVC Pressure Fittings
The PVC-U Pressure Fittings range is manufactured to AS1477 Cl 18 and is compatible with Series one Pressure Pipe solvent weld joints. PVC-U fittings need to be installed using the appropriate solvent and cleaner as specified for their application. There are other pressure fittings on the market such as American Standard Schedule 40 and Schedule 80 fittings, we do not sell these only Australian Standard fittings to ensure warranties are compliant with Australian regulations.
